Dam it, Janet!

Re: Immigration. So, let me see if I understand the question: conservatives are looking around this country and can’t find anything to do. Everything’s just right and, in light of that, we certainly don’t need more workers! The reality is, this country’s a mess but we are so fortunate as to have so very many people ready to do anything to stay here-we just have to pay them. Millions of Americans and millions who want to be Americans, all we have to do is pay them and point them in the right direction. So, what would be worth it, what project would pay off in the long run and make the initial investment seem insignificant? How about damming the Mississippi? For the past several years, Old Man River has overflowed all natural and artificial barriers, call it “climate change”, damaging and delaying planting on the most fertile ground on the planet. A dam would prevent the delays and protect that topsoil from becoming part of the New Orleans delta. One benefit there but perhaps the larger benefits would be the hydropower it would generate, the new innovations brought into such a project and the immediate boost to the demand side of the economy, not to mention the boost to national pride. Alright, Mr. Businessman, who wants in on a century’s worth of upside? You’re dam right you do…
